Raji H/W film sequence presentation

The sequence of my chosen film is the ending of ‘Silent Hill’ to present in class and try and explain about the cinematography, editing, mise-en-scene and sound.

This film is about a young girl who starts to have visions and sleep walks during her sleep about a place called ‘Silent Hill’ and during one part of the film she drew a picture of her mum and dad, then whilst she was asleep she had scribbled it all out in dark colours and made it look evil, one problems the family had is that the little girl could not remember anything she had done.
The ending scene as you can tell from the clip below is where the mother just managed to save her daughter from the mental people killing her because they thought she was processed, then they both go home to the husband/dad.

The lighting in this ending scene is very persific and we can tell it is edited, as when the camera is showing the mother and daughter the lighting is very high key and like a dream almost, not realistic, of which you can tell however when the camera is on the dad, the lighting is not the same, even though they’re in the same place, the lighting is very realistic and not as light. This also adds to the plot and helps the viewers understand what happens; during the film the daughter and mother dies however we cannot see this till the end scene where the mother and daughter goes home where the dad is, however the dad cannot see them neither they cannot see him at all.
The camera adds to this too because it is shoot where the dad is not in the same frame as the mother and daughter, which also proves and helps the viewers understand this.

There is not much talking included in this, however there is music which I think adds to the tensions of the scene, and makes it more powerful, basically saying the mother and daughter is shocked by the previous events occurred and that they are home and it looks like everything look exactly the same as it did when they left. Also I think that they are a little confused them self because they cannot see the father there.

One prop that I know is important in this particular scene is the phone; the mother uses the phone to ring her husband to say they are on their way home now however on the other end of the phone, the man picks up but all he can hear is a fizzle noise which also connote that something is still wrong but we just don’t know it yet.

The costuming in this film has a little importance because if someone jus watches the ending, they can easily tell that the mother and daughter has been threw a lot with their dirty ripped clothes, as for the father, he wears a suit which show’s he is a business man who like to look smart.
